Okay, so tonight I went to my local PetSmart (I know, I know...) to get a replacement bulb for one of my aquariums and in their tank of Rosy Red Minnows, I noticed something. It looked like a large shrimp or possibly a crawdad/crayfish?? I asked the guy working there what it was and he said that he had no clue because it had arrived as an accident in one of their recent shipments. Then I asked if it was for sale, and again, he didn't know, but didn't think so. He then told me to call the manager the next day and to ask about it and if it was for sale. He then looked at me and asked if I already had an aquarium and I told him I had a few, and to make a long story short, he gave me this cool creature for free!
...Although I am totally stoked about this new guy, I really don't know what he is. If any one recognizes this guy and knows what he is and how to care for him, that would be much appreciated.

Following are two pictures of him:

Gotta love the freebies, and it is a crawdad/crawfish its pretty common that they come in with the rosies or the goldfish. I've picked up a few myself but they ended up going to a dempsy after trying to eat some of the others we had.

Hmm. It looks awfully close to my Blue Crayfish except of course my Crayfish is Blue. Hmm. My guess would be a Crayfish of some type. If that is a small aquarium I would move it to something bigger like a 10 gallon.

Does anyone have any more information about this guy who apparently is a crawdad?
How big will he get and what size of a tank should I put him in?
Also, what does he eat? Will he eat Hikari Sinking Wafers for bottom feeders?

Oh... I just put him in a small container for better pictures, that's all. It's not his tank. :D

looks like a crayfish to me. i see you've given him an algae pellet. although they'll eat just about anything, i believe they prefer a bit more meaty diet.

I'm not sure of that little fella, but you could always try giving him shrimp pellets. My crayfish eats shrimp pellets, guppies, and frozen brine shrimp. I'm sure that little guy would eat the same.

It's just a regular old red Crawfish. Sometimes they get lighter or darker. Tasty little critters. I'm looking forward to the next 50 pound sack we boil. :)

They get a little bigger, but not too much bigger. I can't tell you for sure what they eat, but I know that they're scavengers.

Making me hungry just thinking about them:-)

Nope i dont think so guys, THAT creature you have there looks 100% IDENTICLE to A Yabby, a FW cray from Australia. I AM CERTAIN thats what it is, notice the transpertish legs. Grow him up and eat him. yum :)

looks like my friends blue lobster, even though not that blue yet as its small.

it will turn blue as it gets bigger but will start to eat small fish.
