I'm going for it being a yabby. I don't know what that is in America though.

It is a plain ol crawdad.
a crawdad and a crayfish are the same thing as far as I know.
I like them, but to think of eating them, makes me think of eating a giant roach. He has a crunchy shell. ICKY

Sort of like the roach of the sea... :) (you can tell I spend way too much time watching tot videos lol)

Anyway, they molt.
They will get around 5 inches max, at least that is the biggest one Ive caught at the creek, they like cool water.

worms, shrimp pellets, minnows, maybe insects. ect
probably snails?

They are also masters at escape. He will be under your foot at 2 in the morning real soon if you dont trap him tight.

They LOVE rocks, to hide. Gravel. They will move the gravel around into piles and make dens ect. VERY interesting to watch them work. Will uproot pants ect and rearrange their house to their liking no matter what you want!

They can also pinch you with those claw thingies.

bet ya don't like lobster either lol. call it a yabby call it fred or barney its still a crayfish, crawdad, mudbug, freshwater lobster etc etc. they tend to be scavengers but when hungry they can pick off small fish.I have seen them in feeder tanks to control the dead fish-Anne

We would set traps for crawdads in rivers and streams. Guess what we used! Dog Food. They love it! Give it a shot.

dog food should be high in fats and protein so that is probably why they take it so well. I would think it to mush up and rot pretty quick though, so I'd be sure to clean often. Even clean his 'dens' because he will probably hoard food in his caves for later. Dont use dog feed with artificial color, might color your water.

be warned that crayfish can go after fish and eat them, especially fish that like to "settle" down to sleep in their perspective place. they can be monsters..but if you keep it fed it may leave everyone alone.

You don't eat the shell. THe only part that you eat is the meat in the tail. Sometimes you can eat the meat in the claws if it's big enough.

I'm from the Cajun Heartland in Lafayette, Louisiana where it's the most popular thing to eat along with Gumbo and the like.

And why people call them Crayfish is beyond me. We've always called them Crawfish. :)

It's also kind of funny to me that people pay a couple bucks a piece for them, when you can buy them for a dollar a pound here.
