Hubby and I went to the local PetCo today, and guess what, they DON"T match competitors prices. They have API's for $31.99 and we had a printed copy of PetSmart's API for $20.69. The fish lady said they don't match ANYONE'S prices (even from the internet:eek: ). She said she would do it just this once. But not next time we happened to go there. Well, we decided never to shop at PetCo again. And PetSmart WILL match competitor's prices (no matter who they are). So PetCo lost good customers:mad2: , and PetSmart is going to keep us as consumers:) . Just as long as we have the internet prices or newspaper sale flyers with us. Way to go PetSmart.........:joe: Has this happened to anyone else?????

If you found a cheaper place in the 1st place why not go to them 1st? Also petsmart around here dont cary SW fish. I know PEtco's SW delivery date and talk to the management he can order anything I want All I do is go and pick up my fish STILL IN THE SHIPPERS BAG!! That way Its like getting something shipped directly. PLUS they sell their SW fish CHEAP!!! I dont know any place that would sell a HUGE yellow Tang for $29.99 I will be getting my yellow watchman for about 15 bucks :D

I was talking about the water test kit Aquaruim Pharmaceuticals,Inc. How did you come up with SW? We have 2 FW tanks. Petco is only 5 miles away from us and PetSmart is 10 miles. Plus we went there during rush hour traffic. You would think that PetCo would match competitors prices to keep customers but they don't. :)

We buy what we can from our lfs, he is about 20 miles away, we got our set up there and purchase all our fish there, {mom and pop type store} but on filters, media, food, accessories,he is very over priced, when i can save 15 - 20 dollars and drive half as far its not worth it, i understand what you are saying but i have bills to pay also....

Weeeeeell, guys, some of us don't have much of a choice. In my region, we have 3 Wally Worlds, a PetSmart (with great knowledgeable aquatic staff), and 3 LFS. One caters mostly to SW and is over an hour away; one doesn't care very well for the fish so they are often in quarantine or look awful; the thirird WAS great, but it carries supplies for every kind of pet but horses, and cut back all its fish but mollies, playties, guppies and goldies. So I've had great luck with PetSmart . . . . I just can't justify driving my F150 two hours to the big city of Raleigh, battling traffic and and time to check out what they may have. It's just how you make what you have work for you!!!

We have a whole bunch of PetSmarts and Petcos and some LFS's around us. It just makes me sad that some major Pet chains wouldn't accommodate people to help save on rising prices around the country. That is why alot of companies go out of business. They charge an arm and a leg for products that people need. Consumers are the number one reason. And they probably lose alot of customers because of price jacking. Well, we have all we need for our little critters anyway. They will be just fine. I found a new LFS up the street from where we live and it does have fishies also. Trying to talk hubby into going to check it out. :dance2:

(everytime I hear or see the word Wally World, I think of the Griswalds from National Lampoon's Vacation, Chevy Chase is the best)

And they probably lose alot of customers because of price jacking.

Actually; it's more than that ...

the BIG chain stores are the ones who have the customer confused.

Like back when Walmart was selling toys at Christmas time that were priced less than what the store bought them for.

It's the little retail store who is getting killed because the common clueless customer thinks that the little guy is too expensive when in fact they aren't.

I used to have a retail business - and when I went head to head against Walmart - my supplier STOPPED getting me my orders - someone got to them and I lost!

... but "No Big Deal" so long as the customer can think the little guy is ripping them off!

Thanks for the heads up on that...Little locals have to have their prices a little higher than the majors because then they would end up going down under...is that correct...I wish our mom and pop LFS was closer then we would shop there more often...Its sad that littles really don't have a chance against the majors...I guess all we can do is support the littles in any way we can. I sure would....:(
