hob filter and sand?

picture.php

Playsand (50lb bag for I think it was $4) with 2 HOBs that has been setup for over a year with zero problems. As long as you clean the sand properly nothing should be in there to really float in the water column long enough to get sucked up by the HOB and damage anything.

gorgeus tank tekonus. sounds like lots of people have different results,oh and btw he is a canaliculata!

k,the tank has been set up with play sand and some live plants and a baby guppy and some bacteria that hopefully colonated the filter while i ran it in my established tank, and some fake plants and a couple of rocks from that tank.

Briggs don't really care for the sand IME. If you go with sand I just use a media bag rubber banded around the intake to keep the sand out, be careful though when setting it up I have ruined more than one HOB impellar by getting sand in it.
IME they were fine.

no pics just yet,the guppies blend in with the sand too well, will post some when they r larger.

Also watch your heater placement, I read somewhere that someone had their heater resting in the sand and it cracked the tank.
