hob filter and sand?

as long as you don't bury your intake tube under the sand you will be fine. I have my intakes several inches from the sand with no problems.

the outtake on that filter is freakin sweet. i agree tho, ive killed 3 HOBs on my 10gs from sand. if you can find a prefilter sponge and put over the intake it should protect it from sand/dirt/rocks/plants/fish/etc

Also watch your heater placement, I read somewhere that someone had their heater resting in the sand and it cracked the tank.

i dont need a heater ,i live in south florida

oh and i rinsed the sand real good so i really didnt need to do anything special to the filter intake.
