While yes a canister >>>>>>>>> HOB filter my question isn't that simple. =P

Currently my 55 gallon has 2 AC70's as filtration. This is like $100 worth of filters. I'm debating whether it is worth buying and replacing my filters with one of them sunsuns that are so cheap. For example this http://www.ebay.com/itm/HW-303A-Fresh-Saltwater-Fish-Tank-Outside-Filter-SUNSUN-/380341356647?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item588e1c8867

Besides the insane amount of ****ing I'll get from my parents for putting even more money into my tank I'm wondering if it is worth switching? The AC70's will no longer be used since I don't have any other tank that can benefit. Maybe I can sell? Who knows. Thanks.

The only thing I don't like about running two HOB's is the output. I wish I could make the output for both filters come out of only one side of the tank rather than having two filters pushing out water on two different spots of the tanks.

i agree with Mg, two filters on larger tanks (anything over the 10 to 20 gallon size) is my rule here, and if the filter outputs are circulating water in different areas of the tank then that is exactly what you want. my 55 has a rena canister and an aquaclear hob, with the outputs pushing water around in each side of the tank.

I'm just annoyed by the intake and out take of the filters. I've seen my fish get sucked to the intake and they struggle a bit to get off. The out take bothers me because none of my fish seem to like the current going in different directions. I feel like parts of my tank are a no swim zone due to the filters, even on low settings. This problem is even more exaggerated on my 10g with my AC20 in it.

Try putting sponges on your intake. It makes a nice pre-filter and slows the flow a little. Just rinse them in tank water with water changes.

But I agree with advice you have already received. Plus...I haven't had a healthy fish get sucked to my intake. I have aquaclears on all my smaller tanks.

I use an actual small round sponge they carry at my LFS...wish I could remember the company. Most recently however I have just used a sponge filter I had lying around and cut it into quarters, scored the top in an X with a sharp serrated knife and pushed it onto the intake. I really love them as a prefilter and on tanks with smaller fish/fry.
