Holy Elephantnoses

Um, according to the definition that dictionary.com gave, most large fish in the Nile were sacred. Im sure somebody has kept some other large fish from the Nile (ie. RTCs). Im sure ther religions have had "sacred fish" also.

Definition:
any one of numerous species of fresh-water African fishes of the family Mormyrid[ae]. Several large species inhabit the Nile and were considered sacred by the ancient Egyptians; especially Mormyrus oxyrhynchus.

in essence: OF THE FAMILY MORMYRID (elephant nose)

Family is Mormyrid
species is under this family

Well, for reasons that still aren't entirely clear to me I went over and got the Webster's Unabridged down and it actually says (under sacred):
"sacred fish: any one of various fresh-water fishes of Africa; a large number of species, found in the river Nile, were venerated by the ancient Egyptians. Mormyrus oxyrhynchus is the best-known species."

its a dictionary man... you know, a book

dictionary.com isnt infallable, why do you think it has a link to report errors in definitions?

just go to dictionary.com and look up microsoft.

whatever... I dont show you providing any links stating there are OTHER fish that are sacred in the nile..what are there names? If you cant provide proof... well, then...its just Hear say..

you cant provide any information that your fish was sacred because ive already proven that the common elephant nose does not come from the Nile.

I could care less about fish being sacred, i have better things to do than argue about what the egyptians thought was sacred. They thought cats were sacred too, guess everybody should worship cats too.

Is this the part when we are all supposed to raise our cyber beers and shout SALUD ?

You guys crack me up. If y'all are going to debate, then step up to the podium and debate and let's cut the crap.

This bickering has got to go.

So you cant prove your claim? Good. I can and did. The elephant nose WAS held as a SACRED symbol to a portion of the egyptian poeple. To say the "common" elephant nose is not found in the nile is like saying zebra mussels arent in the great lakes. Maybe a majority of the "common" elephant noses wasnt found in the nile, but they did exist in that river. Your sources didnt mention about the River Volter (begins with a "v" I know), and they lived wondefully in that river also..

No more bickering please slip...
