Okay so yesterday I introduced 3 honey gouramis (1 female 2 males)into my 25g planted aquarium. They are having a great time darting around and even playing with my cories... Today I came home to a pretty large bubble nest and I noticed that one of my males changed colors! They were both the standard with a white face and belly and orange back but today one of the males, only one, has a BLACK face and belly an orange back and a bright yellow dorsal... it's soooo weird. The other has a tinge of black on his lower dorsal and a tinge of yellow on his upper but the other one has such dramatic colors. What does this mean??? Oh also the more colorful one is who built the nest and he kind of kicks the other guy out lol he just hits him with his little feeler (?) things, nothing to hurt him. Any idea what the heck is going on?

breeding colors.

Ain't it cool! Your male is in fine breeding attire. The female should get a thick horizontal band down her side as well. People always looked at me weird when I raved about Honey Dwarfs (Colisa chuna) until they saw one of these guys trying to reproduce :)

OMG that's EXACTLY what color he turned lol:eek3:. Then late last night he appeared to tone down his colors a bit and this morning he was back in action! It's only one of the males, the other is just hanging out still exploring. The females band is definitelyn thicker than when I first got her. I'm actually debating buying another female for my other guy too... they won't bother the "new chick" will they? I think I'm going to go back to the same place I got the others so technically they've already met lol, he had a ton when I was there last Friday. What do you think???

Thanks! I think I'll have to take a ride after work :). I think honeys are my new favorite fish!

I adore them as well. My male honey did not get as dark as the picture above, but would get a more speckled black appearance to his throat. They are fantastic fish!

I had honeys before but now I am thinking that they were both males and were very juvenile because they never did any of this, it's amazing to watch! Friday will be the day I add two more females and maybe one more male. I hope they'll pair up but we'll see. Whats cool is that they can change colors SO quickly! One minute they're normal and five minutes later they turn black. The female is definitely carrying eggs, she has gotten quite wide the last few days. Can't wait to see what happens. I will definitely keep you all updated!
