Hop, Skip, Munch...

Everything looks great. How much volume does the tank hold, and what are the dimensions? It doesn't look big enough to hold 3 full-grown skippers without aggression issues...

great job on the tank and video. i admire your talents and skills. i had a 6 inch african mudkipper for a while myself. he never ate any of my fish except for some glass catfish ( he only saw the heads, thought they were bugs). he jumped out one night and didnt make it when i found. so much for internal water tanks! i havent seen them since but im always looking. do you add salt in your water? also, mine never went into the bottom of the tank...he just swam on top next to his dock. have they successfully been bred in captivity yet?

What a great video! (the music was a bit scary. Flying termites, I can only imagine that from watching Animal Planet or Discovery Channel, but to live somewhere where that happens is amazing! Their home is amazing btw. you have done a beautiful job. Keep the pictures and videos coming. What happens out your window is much more exiciting then out my window

Thank you! Scary music rocks! :headbang2:

It's quite amazing to watch the termite migration. Hundreds of birds of all kinds suddenly show up and they swoop in an out of the column of ants snatching them out of the sky. Our dogs love to catch the low flying ones as well! I'll set up a video camera next time it happens - If I'm too busy snatching them out of the sky myself! lol

Some of the local people like to fry them in butter and they taste pretty close to peanut butter. Not my cup of tea tho! lol

Living on the outskirts of town has it's advantages - we still get a lot of insects, spiders, birds and lizards hanging out in our garden. Our house is like the local zoo as well - 4 dogs, 21 fish tanks, 8 hamsters, 3 mice, 1 African Ringneck Parakeet, 2 Cockatiels, 2 Budgies, 2 Zebra Finches, 2 Penguin Finches, 2 Rosy Red Lovebirds, 2 Cochin Bantam Chickens... Quite a big happy family! :)

Such a cool set-up. You've done an outstanding job on it!

Thank you! I'm quite proud of it! :)

It's a standard 20G and it takes around 11G to fill. It was originally built for only 2 but then I came across the 3rd skipper and just couldn't resist! The photos may be a bit misleading as the whole concrete section is hollow so they have a lot more space inside. I can easily migrate them to a 30G if it becomes necessary in future.

So far they quite mellow - no aggression. One has claimed the left bank, the other the right bank, and the smaller of the 3 loves the front cave.

Sorry to hear about your skipper! :(

They can live out of water for extended periods of time as long as they can stay wet. The LFS I got mine from had them in freshwater so I have been increasing the salt level using marine salt mix. It's currently between 1.001 and 1.002.

Mine enjoy all levels of the tank and spend quite a bit of time in the back under the pump/filter. I alternate feeding, one day live crickets and the next frozen bloodworm so they are quite used to trawling the bottom looking for food. Strange thing is they only ate the white mollies and they've left the black ones alone! lol

They are quite rare here as well and only available twice a year. Not sure about the captive breeding as our LFS says there is a local breeder and they're not wild caught. I'm hoping mine will prove the text books wrong and produce some offspring! :)

i just saw these guys at an LFS a few days ago, such neat little creatures.
