yeah, my guess is that plant death doesn't come from shade in that instance, but from the string being too tight or breaking the stem.
All, I saw the coolest thing today. I was kind of gazing into my planted shrimp tank, checking on what I could move/tweak, when I saw some bubbles coming from somewhere. I realized that they were coming from the broken stem of some Hornwort. It was the coolest thing as these tiny bubbles just kept flowing out of the stem, constantly, like a miniature air hose. I know plants create/release oxygen, but to see it release in that amount was impressive.
I took some pictures and a little bit of video, but it was hard to get a fast enough iso in macro mode to really freeze the action. I'll post a pic or two if I find one that shows the action.
That's called streaming, and it's different from pearling. It occurs when a plant is damaged, as you have noticed. Just wanted you to put a name with what is happening.What MG's picture shows is pearling.
