I have been reading and reading and reading, each and every person has something different to say. My betta has a bit of a tail biting issue there for it looks as though he is getting a bit of fin rot on this tail. I have asked several people on Facebook and I am getting all different answers. I would like to move him to a hospital tank tonight and treat him with paraguard (seachem). I have a 1.5 unused tank in my garage with a small heater. I have no filter for it though, does my hospital tank need to have a filter? Does the tank need a light? I heard letting them sit in the dark helps speed up the process of healing. Can someone school me on hospital tanks please. He currently lives in an 8gal, temp is at a steady 80 degrees, params are good. Thanks in advance. I love to learn as much as possible so in the future I can just make it happen for either of my bettas.

What else is in the tank with the Betta?

If he's alone, I'd probably leave him where he is and treat, just be sure to read the manufacturers instructions.

Ultra clean water can help in a large number of situations, so more frequent water changes might be an idea too.

dougall has it right, frequent large water changes can work wonders...daily 50% or more if you can.

Can you explain "tail biting", I've seen that expression but never that behavior.

Perfect I did a 90% change on his tank yesterday and Ill keep with the 50% through this week and Ive added stressguard to the tank as well. There is a snail in the tank with him but I took him out since I started adding the stressguard.
