This is a great story!

Now I did have a few goldfish in a bowl growing up, but that's about it.

My fishkeeping began in college when I got a 5.5 gallon tank. (Now don't laugh too hard). So I went to Wal-Mart to pick out some fish, and I picked out a baby Oscar (Such cute little buggers!)....

So naturally after doing some research when I got home I knew I needed a bigger tank in about a MONTH, so I talked my mom into getting a 55-gallon tank for my birthday. I later added another oscar and the pair grew to 12" and 11"... Unfortunately I got rid of them when it came time to move... I miss those guys...

But I still have my tank... just new fish!

I got in to keeping fish from middle school. Our science class had a very large oscar in a 100gal+ and a smaller "feeder tank" next to it. I say "feeder tank" because it was a seperate tank of gold fish. The teacher couldn't figure out how/why the gold fish were dissapearing. Well we had to feed the oscar, right?
I've been hooked ever since

We got feeders at a halloween fair when I was 8. My sister's boyfriend felt sorry for the fish sitting in jars (with ich!), so he stole two tanks (10 and a 15 gallon) from his college for me and my brother. I think the fish were dead within a week, but it started me on a lifelong obsession.

I've kept bettas for a long time. One day about five years ago I was at Petsmart looking for a new betta to add to my "collection" (which consisted of, at the time, 5 different bettas in varying large glass bowls throughout the house :().

They were having a sale on the big tanks, and I looked them over and really wanted to get one. My husband said we had to wait until we moved into a bigger house (we were living in an apartment with a living/kitchen combo, bedroom and bathroom at the time). A few months later we moved, I started looking around and researching, and bought my tank in July of 2000.

I put one of my bettas into the big tank, took another one into work, and gave the other 3 away (1 to each brother, 1 to my best friend).

A friend of my parents had an aquarium full of plain old guppies, and I do mean plain. This was before all glass tanks and fancy guppies. When they went to visit, I would sit and watch them for as long as my parents visited. One day I got a 10g and "Sonny" gave me some guppies. That was a LongTime ago and I have rarely been without a tank since then.

We used to have a tank when I was about 5 years old. All the fish kept dying and we just took the tank down. While at one of my friend's at about 14, we would always just sit and look at his 10g fish tank. I convinced my mom to get me a 3 gallon eclipse tank with filter and all. Then, I got a 10g and finally my current 72g which has been set up for several years now.

lets see...

I think it all started when I was about 8 years old. I kept bugging my mom for a fish. She gave in to me and bought me a little 5 gallon tank with a Betta. Ever since then I kept wanting bigger tanks. So it started as a 5 gallon, then to a 10, then a 25 and now finally I am at a 72 gallon. Even though I just got that one I already want a bigger one. Meh... looks like I need another job.

I used to be into fish in a big way but got out of it when my breeding angelfish died (one of cancer, the other I'm assuming from lonliness). About six months ago I got some newts just for the heck of it. I decided to get them some feeder guppies which lasted less than 18 hours! When I got more feeder guppies I decided to get one feeder goldfish just for color (even baby goldfish are far too big for the newts to eat). That one goldfish snowballed and got me back into fish again in a big way (I started with a single 1/4 full 10 gallon with four newts, ten guppies and a single goldfish and now I have two 55s, one of tropicals the other of Goldfish, a 20 SW and a couple small tanks).

other...

I wanted a dog. But, where we live, we can't have one anywhere but in the house. Hubby bought me a 10 gallon tank kit instead. He is not a dog person and doesn't want one in the house. The kit sat in my closet unopened for 3 years. I finally decided to set it up.

I now have a 55g, 29g, six 10g, and three 5g.

The man should have let me have a dog!!!
