I just bought one of those Hardy Water Lily pots from Petsmart, and I was wondering if it was like an anubias plant, leave it half buried or bury it all. The rhizome is about 3 inches long and 1 inch thick. It is pointed at one end and it looks as if it was cut straight at the other end. I took it out from the coco fiber pot and it is currently half buried with the pointed end sticking out about 1 inch from the sand. I know that the water has to be at least a foot deep for it to grow good, so it is in an area that the water above the rhizome is about 16 inches deep.

Is this OK for a Hardy Water Lily rhizome?

my water lilies are in a container of potting soil and they are in a 3 1/2 feet of water and they are growing like crazy and are starting to bloom. You have to put them in a pot and cover the root with at least 1 inch of soil and put some small pebbles on top to keep the soil down and from washing away.

I think it should be burried sideways in an angle so the pointy part is pointing upwards. Im not entirely sure about this. The lilys we have came in a basket with a net around it.. you just toss it in the water so I didnt get a good look at the rhizome or bulbs orientation.

This is the correct way(@45 degree angle). Be sure to leave the tip of the rhizome uncovered. Covering it with alot of gravel will slow the growth. The closer to the lights the better the growth.

Thanks Reddog and Bansart. I have reburied my rizhome and the pointy tip is poking out of the sand at a 45 degree angle.
