How do you keep the cat off the tank?!

get a stong canopy

I gave up..my cats like the fish and will watch them for hours.. add to that the temp above the tank is nice .

Yuki will even grap the lip on the stand of my 55 and pull himself up to watch..

Yup, mine too. He has a bad habit of sitting on the tv stand (tank is next to it) to watch/attack, which interferes with tv watching and video games. So we often pull the ottoman out in front of the tank so he has a perch. But FWIW, his weight on the hood doesn't seem to be a problem.

:grinyes: Worked for my sister. I just put a chair next to my tanks so my roommates cat can watch them. It's rather entertaining. Though he has taken to sitting on top of my red eyed tree frog's tank and scratch on the screen lid. He doesn't bother the ball python unless it's feeding time. Then he scratches at the glass and plays with the mice.

We gave up on trying to keep our cats out of trouble, and built them a kitty haven in one of the bedrooms (which hopefully either this summer or next will have an outdoor section too - depends on how the taxes shake out this year on whether we can afford the deck and such). Anyhow, they are only allowed out in the rest of the house when we're home to babysit. When we're not home, and at night, they are in their room.

I trained mine by opening the top of the tank and trying to dip his feet into the water. He didn't like it at all and never went on the tanks again.

Let him fall in thats what i did. They never even went within 4 ft of the tank again...

keep it topless
they go up, they go in

Exactly *why* mine has a lid. Gizmo loves water- helikes when we fill up the bathtub or leave the sink on. I think he'd be quite happy to swin around with the fish. Don't think the fish'd appreciate it though!
