How do you make your footprint lighter?

what about solar panels? a family friend of mine lives in Death Valley California and has to have the ac on 24/7 and her electric bill is like only 5 dollars. Within a year the money for the solar panels was paid for and she was using much less electricity. Just my opinion.:)

I wish we could afford a solar panel, but we can't....
Sides? If you look at what I've said, I've stated that global warming exists, but is truly global climate change, human emissions are what are causing it, not a natural cycle, and it will have various catastrophic effects if not dealt with; however, we can and should deal with it. I've also said that the media is not a good source of scientific information, has associated being environmentally friendly with a lifestyle which is a stupid, stupid thing to do, and that Al Gore used false facts in his video.

Solar panels are a great way to save energy and reduce your footprint. However there is a large up-front cost with installation that many people cannot afford. Also, solar panels in Death Valley, CA are one thing -- since it is sunny and hot almost 365 days a year, I'm sure it saves plenty of money and energy. But many people (like me) live in parts of the country where it is warm and sunny about 10% of the year. I know people who have solar panels here as well, and while it certainly helps, they don't save nearly as much energy as someone in CA would.

And I also don't understand the idea of taking 'sides'...I feel like that is the same kind of unreflective, polarizing rhetoric the media uses on this issue.

Schizo, stop drinking the cool-aid. Scientists ARE NOT (Repeat, ARE NOT) in agreement. Heck, even the founder of greenpeace has come out and said that GW is not caused by humans, and further went to say that we should build more nuclear reactors.

Lucy, I agree on the solar panels. Not really a viable option where I live, too many trees, and clouds a good 50% of the time.

omg WHAT IS THE TRUTH ABOUT GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE?!?!?!?
if we never kno the dam truth, how are we supposed to come together and act on it? i repeat, what is the truth?!

do we even need to act on it? im starting to think there might not even be such a thing. this is just nutso.
what else are we supposed to believe if nobody out there is telling us the straight up truth?

No one knows the truth, its all theories filled with "ifs" "ands" n "buts"

Well, I'm sorry, but if you look at the reports I've linked to and the fact that all the scientists I've talked to at a university level and the books I've been reading at the university level all state that there is no controversy, backed up by evidence, then there is no controversy..

Edit: A google search will bring up sources from Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Columbia, NASA, the European Union, the UN, and Nature.
