If saltwater, I drip acclimate.
If freshwater, especially when bought online, I find out the pH and general water conditions the fish come to me from. The pH is almost always lower than what I have, so I usually throw in some new driftwood prior to dumping the fish out. Usually overnight shipping does not lead to issues, but I find it better to get the fish into fresh water rather than float and wait; the temperatures are usually pretty close regardless. Now, if you're talking fish like discus or wild-caught plecos or cories, I might drip, but it depends on the water in the shipping bag.

I have gotten ick a few times and killed the most beautiful clown loach.
So from now on drip only for fish that are sensitive or cost a lot.

Get a small kritter keeper at Walmart, or for smaller fish a small rubber maid container. I've got 3-4 sizes from 1qt on up depending on what size fish I just got. Also handy if I'm moving fish to another tank.
Dump fish in container. If there is enough water to do so, only add half the water.
Float container in tank.
Add a few ounces of water every 10-20 minutes. Sometimes if I'm busy it will be 30-45 minutes between additions. Whatever.
When the amount of water is or close to double than the original amount, use net, remove fish, place in tank.
