how is this sand for a freshwater 75g tank?

actually i'll probably get pool sand because this sand seems really fine and light. but i like it cuz it is really white. is pool sand white?

Most of the ones I've seen are white!

That sand is specifically designed for Marine environments so therefore I would stay away from it. White sand can be an issue in tanks for a couple of reasons. First off it shows all the waste from your fishes so if you don't vaccuum regularily you will notice it. Second most people feel that white sands have a tendency to cause your fish to look washed out. Darker aquarium subtrates are considered better for your fish to bring out the colours. The other thing with sand is that you will need to have some snails or other borrowing animals to move the substrate around to prevent anerobic pockets of gass from forming.

I suggest pool filter sand. Its pretty cheap. I paid about $8 for a 50lb bag. :) Some people have paid less for it. Look at pool supply places.

i do not want play sand. i am going with pool sand, but is it possible to get it in a darker color?

white sand will also look better with slate right?
