I orderd a filter from big als and it says on the web site... shipping withing 24-48 hours,,, I called them and they said that they recieved my order and that it will be arriving on the 15th of this month which is about 2 weeks waiting,.. How long does it usually take for your orders to get in... ?

I'm in Ohio, so this may not be much help. I ordered an emperor 400 on saturday and it came in on wednesday. Now that's what I call service!!
Unless Big Al's has changed the way they ship in the last month or two, here's how they do it: You place an order, 24-48 hours later UPS picks it up.. THEN, UPS takes whatever time they take to get something from Big Als (Upstate New York) to you via UPS GROUND.
In a nutshell.. Big Al's ships pretty quick. Getting something out in 2 or so days isn't bad. UPS Ground is slow. Oh well, it's cheap too. I still prefer FedEx... And Big Al's should let me pay more for different shipping options, but they don't. I live in southern Mississippi, and it took about 4 days after my order was shipped for it to reach me. Total of about 5 1/2 days from when I clicked the "purchase" button on the website, not counting weekends.

Being an Ohioan must help, I get every order 2 buisiness days after it's placed. I have seen others complain, and would be most apt to beleive it's UPS and not big Al's that is at fault. it seems to be very consistant from state to state, but the further away you get the less satisfied the customers are.

big al's has a shipping policy where they will not ship an order unless it's complete. meaning that if even one item that u ordered is not in stock, they will hold up the entire order until it arrives before shipping it with the rest of the order.
i recall calling them about a week after placing the order, only to find that my order had not shipped due to a backordered item (their website states differently). i was so irked that they did not call me to tell me that there was this delay (even tho website said "in stock") that i canceled the entire order and went with thatpetplace.com instead. i find them to be better on the customer service.
from reading everyone else's posts tho, big al's may not be a bad choice. my experience wasn't that great, but i will give big al's a second chance for a future purchase. ymmv.

See, and I won't order from anywhere but Big Als. Had a cracked filter lid in one order, and when I called, they shipped out a new one overnight w/return shipping materials for the cracked one.
They've always been very polite and helpful on the rare occaision I've called them on the phone.
I'm in PA, so the distance is not far, but if I order early on a weekday, I usuall get it by the day after next (i.e. order Tuesday AM, get product on Thurs.)
And there is noone I've found, including That Fish Place, that beats their prices.

It takes about 4-5 days for me from big al's. It depends though. I live in new jersey and big als is located around me, like in canada or new york. UPS ground shipping can take up to 7 days from the time it was shipped. If you want you items faster it would be wise to get 2nd day air or 3 day select. So its guarnteed.
I had the same problem. I placed an order at Big Al's and they said it'd be shipped right away. It took a good 3 almost 4 weeks to get to me. I figured it was just because I'm in CA.
