Thanks for voting guys! Looks like I'd be doing 10 hrs then... 12 hrs is a bit long imo.

What's up with the title of this post?

How much salt does a water conditioner add?

aha wierd... I see it too :screwy:

Usually 13+...

Until I wake up: 1-2 pm
Until I go to bed: 2-4 am

So why, in your opinion, is 12hrs too long?

Here is a fun fact for you...

üLight duration: photosynthetic production is directly proportional to the length of the day.
ü The longer the day, the more photosynthesis takes place and the more a plant can grow.

The sun is up in the tropics about 12hrs/day all year round, and most of our plants come from tropical and sub-tropical environments. The sun is much more intense than any lighting we can put on our tanks, even on a cloudy day.

For those saying that more than 10hrs/day will bring algae, it is probably due to your available nutrients and light intensity. For those of us with medium to medium-high light 12+ hours/day will likely be optimal.

Timer runs main lights 10am-10pm & moon lights 9:50pm-1:00am ... I do plan to adjust that time for winter months.

10 hrs. On @ 9am, off @ 1pm, on @ 4:30pm off @10:30pm

My main tank is at 8h for now. I may bump it up a little as long as algae stays in check.

My little 5g office tank only gets 8.5h as it breaks out every time I try to up it.

My 1g shrimp tank is lit 24h, but just by a 4W bulb, mostly to keep it just above RT. It's loaded w/ hair algae, but I'll address that when I move it into a larger tank.
