How many goldfish in my new Fluval Spec III?

Has anybody had any experiences with ordering from Bob's Tropical Plants?

That site is MGamer20o0's business. He is a member here on AC and ive heard really good reviews about him and his livestock. Ive personally never bought anything from him... Yet :)

That is where I ordered the dwarf rasboras, rili shrimp, and banana plant from.

I have a 2 oz. bag of freeze dried bloodworms and a 1/2 pound bag of Ken's Premium floating pellets 3.0 mm that I want to get rid of and/or trade for something. None of my fish eat any of it and 99% of the food is still in the packages. I also have a bottle of pimafix and melafix if anybody wants it. I have come to the conclusion that both of these are nothing more than snake oil.

I got an *excellent* batch of RCS from him.

Pimafix and Melafix as snake oil? I doubt it, but I readily believe that many times, people use them incorrectly, either through ignorance or misdiagnosing the issue. For example, Melafix can be used to kill gram positive bacteria, but not gram negative. I don't know what the difference is, but I know that's an important factor in determining what to dose with.

I've had nothing but excellent experiences with Bob's Tropical Plants.

Also I have to agree with authmal and jpappy, there is lots a conflicting info but some people are just less inclined to provide fish with suitably sized tanks. It is best to read several sources of information and compare them to determine what seems to be a common and accurate recommendation. Some sites will list the bare minimum while others will be slightly more generous. From the fish's perspective bigger is always better. Also, the picture on the box that shows a goldfish in the spec is simply a marketing technique. They depict a well known popular type of fish in the tank to draw attention to it. It's not technically a statement saying the tank is suited for a goldfish.

I agree that the hidden equipment on the spec looks very nice. I have a 2g spec sitting on my desk in front of me as I type this. However, it is also possible to hide equipment on larger standard tanks. For example a black background hides most wires and much of the equipment. Canister filters are also external filters that can be placed under a tank. With canister filters it is also possible to use an inline heater to remove yet another piece of equipment from the tank.

Pimafix and Melafix have their uses. From what I understand they are more of a mild grade medicine using natural ingredients, and can usually be added without having to worry too much about other negative side affects. Having said that you should never dose any medicine without first diagnosing the problem.

Depends on what you deem as "snake oil" as the products can have their use...although since they are such mild antibiotics (They claim to be antifungal too, but most cases of "fungus" in the aquarium seem to actually be bacterial) I'd rather go the clean water route first before adding something. I have used them in the past though, and being so mild there usually aren't negative side effects as mentioned.

As a side note, gram positive vs. gram negative originally has to do with the presence or absence of peptidoglycan in the cell wall but there are other physiological differences which is why they can react differently to antibiotics.

I too ordered RCS from Mg (Bob) along with some plants. Excellent place.

Received some Pennywort today. Put it in the Fluval Spec V to float with the Amazing Amazon frogbit. Has anybody every put rili shrimp, bumblebee shrimp, and blue velvet shrimp in the same tank?

I believe the Rili shrimp and Blue Velvets will crossbreed with each other, so it wouldn't be the best idea to keep them in the same tank.

I think rili and blue velvet are neocaridina variants, and the bumblebee is a caridina variant. The former two will be likely to cross breed.
