I have a 3.5 gallon tank and I am looking at different types of fish for it. I was introduced to male fancy guppies and was wondering how many of them could live in a three gallon tank?

Only one. But if you get Endler's Livebearer (which kinda look like guppies but smaller) you could get two or three.

What sort of filter? I have a 10litre tank (less than 3g) and I made an oversized tank top trickle filter for it and my daughter had 3 guppies in that for a couple of years... Mind you they were 'wild' guppies which are a bit smaller than store bought guppies...
