How often do you replace your fish food?

Like most other forms of dried food I would assume that most types of fish food does eventually go stale despite being in little containers. Now that I'm feeding a variety of foods I've found that a very small container goes a long way. (I still have flake food left in those little "freebie" packets that came along with kit)

So how long do you guys go before replacing your fish food?

I usually buy the smaller containers, so that I don't have that problem. I don't have to worry about it going stale since it will run out before that time. Sure, it does cost a bit more to do it that way, but I can rest assured my fish always will have fresh food.

I buy in bulk and then freeze most, defrosting as needed to refill the small container.

Of course if you got more tanks and fish then you would use the food up faster :-)

3-4 months.....:)

In my case i use it up within 4 months with a 8.8 ounce bag, sometimes sooner but you have to make sure you take it out of the original packaging and put it in a air tight container were you get almost all the air out.

In my experience it goes quicker if it is expose to air and not properly stored.

If i notice that one food is getting older than some other stuff i try to use it up first then go to the newer stuff, that way you never waste even one pellet.

I won a competition a while ago and ended up with shall we say rather a lot of fish food, i opened most of it as it gave my fish a nice variety, anyhow i left one tub for what must of been too long as the next time i opened it all these little creep crawlies wriggled out - ewwwww gross :eek3:

So the morale of the story is, don't keep fish flake for too long :grinyes:

:jaw:heh.. my fish have been eating out of the same super large tin for the past 2 years...
