How old were you when you first (responsibly) kept your first fish?

I was 29. My friend had no one else to give her fish to when she moved, so I ended up with them. Two gouramis and two goldfish in a 10 gallon tank. Soon enough, they got sick, and that's how I discovered this site and learned how to not kill fish :)
My family had a fish tank when I was a kid. It had the usual mix of incompatible fish in there (I'm pretty sure, at the least, there was a goldfish and some neon tetras). It was probably between 10 and 15 gallons. I remember once a month my mom would catch all the fish and put them in a bowl, empty out the tank completely, and take it into the bathroom to thoroughly scrub everything. Looking back, I now know that the tank must have always been re-cycling. No wonder the fish died so often.
And, I think I had a goldfish bowl when I was a teenager, because someone gave me the fish as a gift. Another bad memory :headshake2:

I started responsibly taking care of fish at 14. My mother had some fish from her preschool that I loved to take care of!
Although I didnt know alot about tanks, I knew enough.

probably a few years ago, I got my first fish when I was in 4th grade from my teacher... set up the tank from my garage, filled with "clown puke" gravel, plastic plants, filter, heater... 24 hours later, added the fish i got and another fish my dad got when he bought the equipment. I got a bunch more fish, and then the 2 fish I had (black mollies) died within 2 months... I was so crushed that I had to stay home from camp for a day. LOL. I came here when there was white fungus on my driftwood (my dad actually discovered the website) and have been here ever since. :)
