I'm not going to be much help. The smallest tank I've used for guppies is 10gal, and that was simply a hospital tank / fry tank. Though a 10 gal. is sufficient for a few guppies. I am horrified each time I see a completely stocked 10 gal. tank. Reminds me of other parts of the world where there's no privacy!
My advice is get a larger tank (10gal) . From there, I'd suggest choice B) if you want all of the fry to live, choice C if you want few of the strongest fry to live. Or use your 5.5 as the fry tank.
For my 4 new guppies, I have provided them a 20gal. It provides more than enough space for them to swim and hide, including a small forest for the fry to hide in. Because these are albino reds, I am re-locating the fry that I net out of and place them inside a nursery of a 30 gal. fry tank. From there I will separate them as they mature. My guppies live in mansions. I ordinarily do NOT use a 30gal for fry, but I've had it out already and wanted to use it for something, rather than bring out the 10gal. which is currently stored away for when I decide to quarantine a new fish (then I will bring back)!
