How to stock a 75 gallon tank and it be 'active'

Hehehe its fine, I'm sorry if I sounded like I was just switching back and forth between fish, I should have explained myself.

Ya, I was thinking about whether or not to put a con in there but its looking like it would just be easier to leave him out of the equation for now. Who knows, maybe my christmas present will be another fish tank. :D

If you are still looking to keep cons, the smallest size tank for one breeding pair is a 20gal long, just make sure that you have rocks, caves, visability barriers in the tank. Good luck to you!

@zpromoter- Thanks ^^

Some how in my research of these fish, my list got longer...and more specific:

Cardinal Tetra or Neon Tetra
Diamond tetras
Tiger barb or Cherry barb
Panda Cory
Zebra Danio
Neon Dawrf Gourami (another center piece)
Orange Sunshine Guppy
Neon Blue Tux Guppy
Blue Delta Guppy
Hi Fin Lyretail Swordtail (Figured this could be my centerpiece fish)
Harlequin Rasbora
Black Molly (lots of them)

I'm still writing everything down all the specifics for each of these but that is the line up I have. Also any ideas on the numbers of how many of each? That is one thing I'm not good at at all.

Lets see if I can attempt stocking numbers here, feel free to correct me if I have too many:

20x Diamond Tetra
15x Cardinal/Neon Tetra
6x Panda Cory
10x Zebra Danios
15x Fancy Guppies (all colors)
8x HiFin Lyretail Swordtails
8x Harlequin Rasbora
15x Mollies (all colors)

...that is a lot of fish xD I hope I got some of the numbers and sizes balanced out. Any Suggestions?

I'd leave off the danios. They like a little cooler water and will help reduce the stocking a bit.

For the livebearers, just be aware of their reproductive bounty. Be sure to either prevent babies by keeping all males or have a place to move them to as they will have at least some survivors, and they will breed like crazy.

Personally, I'd keep the swordtails and scrap the rest of the livebearers and increase the cory school to 15. You'll probably have plenty of action in the top/middle with the tetras and rasboras and swordtails. The bottom, however, needs a little boost, and that's why I'd get rid of the livebearers except for the swordtails and increase the cory group. Maybe even get 2 types of cories (I believe they will group together regardless, not sure on that though).

Ahh ya I see what you mean xD I'm top heavy.

Your probably right about the livebearers, and I don't have the room at the moment for another tank to put the little ones so I will probably drop most of those, I don't know how to pick out the males and I doubt my lfs does so I will just go with the swordtails then.

To sex them, look at the anal fin. The males will have a pointy-looking anal fin whereas the female's will be much more fan shaped. Try to get all males since the females will probably have been exposed to males at some point, which means months of babies since they store sperm for several months and have a batch about every 30 days.

Lol prolific little things aren't they? I will try to get all males but as its looking the cost of fish is almost more then the tank itself xD

Yep. As far as I know, all livebearers (mollies, guppies, swordtails, etc.) can be sexed this way.

I know what ya mean about being expensive little buggers! When I got my diamond tetras, they were $3.69 each, but getting 20 of them made the total (with tax) something like $84! To defray the cost, I just got one type of fish at a time. If I hadn't had to special order the diamond tetras, I probably would have gotten only 10 at a time to help spread out the spending, lol.

Lol I contacted my dealer for fish and I can probably get the tetra, swordfish and cory all at once then get the others later. Would a filter of 500gph be alright for the 75 gal or should I go for more?
