I found these articles while looking for news about this yesterday and today (I was at school, so was unable to watch the video). Both are pretty interesting. The first makes the bill seem less scary, but I take everything with a grain of salt and I'm not sure how much truth is in it.

how wont it effect us if we have lets say guppys or hamsters that we bought for our children the pets end up breeding we would be breaking the law right?
Yes that would be correct.

But the bill failed and was over turned with groups like PIJAC and USARK fighting the good fight.
So, we have one this battle but the war will go on. Next year the Bill will be stronger and pushed even harder, we will see a new one in its place.

i say we band together and give them what they want a better system on protecting the American wildlife, we should design a bill so we the ones who fight it and know what we need to keep in mind have our freedom but they the ones worrying about evasive animals can see that we are worried as well and want something done, just not as drastic

SO HR669 DIDNT PASS this year then?

score one for people standing up for their rights

I think one thing thats in our favor is that we have a huge crisis with jobs right now... so taking all the pet stores out of commision isnt really gonna help that much lol

That is exactly what is needed and what I've hoped opponents of this type of legislation would do. Starting at the state level might be the best way to approach this but I'm afraid it's far too late for that.

That's not at all what happened in the hearing. This legislation is quite active and both parties agreed it needs reworking. They have ten days to refine the proposal and depending on how far each party is willing to capitulate, this bill could easily move forward. I get the impression that the government is willing to move a great deal (bad for exotic pet keepers). The exotic proponents don't like the "broad brush" and I'd be willing to bet the proponents of this bill are willing to narrow the brush but give them authority to broaden the brush if needed. This might be the camels nose under the tent approach.

This is what could happen. It could happen in the next 10 days or it could happen with the next incarnation of the bill. If you watched any of the hearing you will know what I am talking about.

The fish farmer had a very good argument. In the next go round they make an exception for the fish farmers. Boom, we lose that ally. Then they make an exemption for the game birds and the sports fish and we lose that ally. As time goes on more and more people become satisfied that the bill won't have any affect on them so they stop opposing it and pretty soon opposition drops off to a point where the bill passes. Whoever is left are the ones who will get screwed.

Which is most likely the fish people and reptile people, as those are the animals causing the most damage. As I said, free lodgings for fellow AC members ;)

I find very little difference in the tactics of different governments.

Now is the time to promote the hobby and being fishkeepers instead of havers. Responsible fishkeepers WILL rise to the top. But, for every one good hobbyist there are 10 that will dump the oscar, snakehead, arowanna in a warm temperate climate. Those are the folks tht you have to stop.

Now is the time to police and cleanup the hobby. We know who the shops and people are that abuse the hobby. Fix it.
