yeah my betta saw the ghost shrimp as a little treat!! haha. and nice save btw..

Now that I have him, I need to learn a bit about them. I am assuming because the LFS just got him from their supplier that he isn't very old. His body without his fins is about 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" long. Does anyone know how much he will grow if any? and how quick or slow? Any sites that are good resources? Thanks
Good luck with them both. They can be used to serve as learning tools for your daughter. That may get you past the hubby issue afterall what guy can refuse his little girl.

I had a few shrimp with my betta and corys... Let's just say HAD them...
Shrimps are great, but I'd stick to an invert tank if I were you.
I had my betta with tets for a while, that was a good mix, except the tets died because the filter system was too strong for them, and they kept getting stuck.
Also, I've never cycled my betta tanks, they are uber resilient.

You should definitely cycle every tank. Just because the fish can survive it, doesn't meant that you should do it. How would you like to live in a room filled with car exhaust just because you'll live through it for a couple days? Not too pleasant I'm sure.
Anyway, yes you can overfeed bettas, just like anything else. Bettas are opportunistic predators, so they will always act hungry. Their bellies should not look sunken in but they should also not look very rounded. A nice fairly straight line. Google betta diets, and there are lots of places that come up. Many avid betta keepers only feed 6 days a week and skip a day. They also will feed part of a pea once a week or so. That will help prevent constipation.

Keep in mind that a healthy betta will also "lounge" around. Mine loves to sit on his live plant.

I just ordered live plants from MsJinkzd and should have them next week. I usually am not an impulse buyer and research what I am doing. I just couldn't let them put him in that cup! The tank has had a jump start with a few bioballs & some decorations from one of my established tanks.
