I can't contain my excitement!!!

my betta USED to spit out flakes.... i think he stopped once he realized that's all he was getting :D

Psh, anything will eat anything when they are hungry. My betta, Ace gets blood worms as treats, but he loves his pellet food just as much. Bettas are picky, but are they really that picky when they are hungry?

My female betta in the community tank fights for flake food just like the others...

There maybe some picky eaters, but in the end it is the people who spoil them's fault when they don't eat fish food :P

Try telling that to countless former bird owners who lost their new pets to starvation because the bird refused to eat a food it didn't recognize. That overly used logic doesn't always apply.

My betta loves his pellets, but it sounds like you have a finicky boy on your hands. Not to sure if bloodworms and brine shrimp are a complete diet, but variety is important. I'd keep trying with the pellets. Let us know how any breeding attempts go as well. ;)

Actually, I believe that is more due to a stressful new environment than anything else. I mean a baby bird found on the ground is not going to eat if you stick it in a cage. Different methodologies.

Anyone else here have any issue with getting their bettas to eat pellets/flakes? Dante is so picky... but I worry that bloodworms and brines all the time won't give him balanced nutrition. Am I fussing too much?

Our betta loves pellets and frozen bloodworms. He gets flakes a few times a week as well. He's not wild about the flakes (he carries them around in his mouth for a bit, then swallows them), but he does eat them. The only food he's ever refused has been freeze-dried stuff, like freeze-dried brine shrimp. He was MIGHTILY offended - spit it out and gave me a look like "you have GOT to be kidding!"

No. It also applies to people who have had their birds for years and suddenly decide to switch foods rather than making it a gradual change. I've heard of many fatalities that occurred under those circumstances as well.

Give us some more pics Kyhoti! ;)

Then the bird is weak and would have been ruled out in the wild because of its inability to adapt. We as humans have made many animals too dependent on us.

Oh ya, pathetically, I don't think I have commented your gorgeous boy yet Kyhoti. Ya, he is amazing. :]

The tetras have been helpful. Dante watched them gobbling up their color-enhancing flakes, got jealous because he was obviously missing out on something, and so he started nipping at them. Now he's eating their flakes just like they steal his worms and shrimp.

But I have noticed that while my tetras are very vital and healthy, they have taken to nipping Dante's fins!! He's been good about chasing them off, but they got a hold of him twice pretty good. If the damage persists, I may end up placing him or them in a different tank. He's more than able to be nasty to them right back. We'll see if he can deter them.

Granted, I was warned that this might occur. I want to see if Dante is capable of curbing them on his own because I was also told that Dante would attack and nip off my brigs snail's antennae and he did initially, but nowadays Samwise and smeagol let their little feelers out as long as they like and nobody bothers them. Perhaps this is just the tetras exploring their boundaries with the fish that used to bully and chase them to see if he's still capable of putting them in their place. Sometimes panicking and immediately separating animals only leads to unnecessary hassle when waiting out the behavior a while proves it was only a temporary glitch in the overall harmony of the aquarium. We shall see...

Took some photos last night and I was all psyched until I remembered why I stopped using my digital camera.... no usb cable.

I'm gonna steal my friend's camera tonight when I take her out for Chinese food. I just got done redecorating my 5 gallon for the THIRD time. I was going to do before and after shots, but I guess the 'before' shot for my 2nd renovation will have to wait until I can get a USB that matches up with my computer again... *grumble grumble*

I'll see about posting new pics sometime soon. :)

Oh, and Dante's been putting those neons in their place, so I think everything will work out fine. He ended up breaking two of his caudal rays in the process, :headshake2: ... but I still think he's absolutely gorgeous just the way he is.
