I Can't Get Rid Of This Stuff

You know something I am really tired of this cyano. I've been trying to get rid of this for 3 or 4 months now and it doesn't want to leave. I changed my lights just yesterday and the stuff just blew up in one corner. I have enough water flow, 1 powerhead in each corner. I added some phosphate sponge and that doesn't seem to help. I only feed 2 times a week, change water every week. What now? I never had this stuff till recently and this tank has been running over 2 years... :hang:

I say, from expierence, just stop fighting. It will only get you frustrated and no matter what you do there will always be algae growing in our tanks. Cyano is suposedly cuased by nitrates bottoming out, wich is what our fish and corals for the most part need, becuase there is very little nitrates in the ocean. It will most likely go away, I have and am seeing all of my newer freshwater tanks go through a diatom phase, the into a final green algae stage. I think it goes the same way in saltwater tanks, only more complicated, such as, diatom, cyano, anything else? (a question for more expierenced salty aquarists), and then finally the good guys, coraline.

It could be due to how you have set up your tank.

What filter do you have?
What water do you top up with?
Turnover rate?
Nitrate levels?

Don't use a filter in my tank. I have a emperor running but no filter media used. Only use RO and have been for the last 2+ years. Sometimes I think it is the water because I never had trouble with tap water. Don't know...

You may need to add more filtration. I would use a product called "Chemi-clean" as a last resort. That product will kill all the cyno and is perfectly safe with inverts, fish, rocks, ect. Be prepared to do a big water change after using it. But if you don't fix what is cauing the cyno then it will come back. How much flow do you have in the tank?

Used red slime remover 3 times and it comes back. Ive got a powerhead in each corner, a skimmer and a filter. How much more do I need?

Skip red slime remover. That deoesn't work as good as chemi clean. Ever since I used chemi clean I have never seen a spot of cyno and it's been gone for more than 3 months.

this place where I bought my LR told me to quit using chemicals to get rid of this and go with a macro. Well that stuff hasn't helped at all. In fact it either has died and or been chewed on by my fish. So I'm just getting more and more frustrated with this stuff. About to make a decision to go back to tap water for changes and see how that affects this. This big blow up of cyano is right my front left corner and I have a powerhead aimed in that vacinity.

what size powerheads?

Calm down. GO get the product chemi clean that WILL do the trick. My cyno outbrake was just a huge mess!! Used chemi clean and cleared up the whole tank. But make sure when the algae is gone to find the problem that caused it too bloom in your tank.
Btw, cyno isn't harmful just ugly.
