Hey breeze--you saw my 55. I have 36 watts over it, and I can keep my anubias alive, but that's it. I really wanted a lush jungle look, too, but it's pretty impossible without rigging up some better lighting. I'm too cheap, so I've settled for the "sparse desert" look, lol.

you have a 55? home depot sells a shoplight for 30ish dollars. its 4 feet long, uglier than sin, but will give you 80 watts of light. did i mention that it is diamond plate? the whole thing is reflective. i really think it gives closer to 2 watts per gallon. ive got one and it grows plants like mad. but since its no more than 2 watts per gallon, i dont have to run co2. just so you know...

i leave the weights on my plants so that the roots touch bottom let them take root in your subtrait i don't plant them because i have a habit of planting them too deep if you do that the plant will rot
