ooh, Doug, I did not know there was a free virus-removing program, or at least one that works well. How does it compare to the ones you have to pay for? I always pay for Symantec and Norton and they work great, no complaints from me.
You expect me to know ?
I just know it's easy to run from the network without installing more than an activeX package, or some java stuff.. and it works well. Oter than that I don't tend to use anti-virus software except Symantec on my work machine.

Give me a little more info about the virus... What does it do? Does it give you errors? Any popups, fake antiviruses?

These two are excellent free antivirus software programs. With avast you have to register it and they will send you a liscence number in your email that you have to put in in 90 days or something like that. AVG is always free. I run both on my comp.
Now for trojans you need spyware removers

These are also both free and I use them both daily to scan my comp. Spybot has a cool immunization program that automaticly protects you from like 20000 spyware's.
Once you fix up your comp you should add a firewall as windows fire wall sucks. When you add it its is going to ask you about every program that is trying to acsess the net. Anything that you know just click allow always. I you dont know what it is then I wouldnt allow it. Its also going to stop programs from automaticly downloading and will ask you first but it will keep your comp clean.

Just so you know if you are really horribly infested then crucial files my be deleted from your comp and some programs may not run right. If this is the case its best to pay someone like 50 bucks to clean it out then install all of these programs to keep it clean.

Well It yes I have a critical system error, the icon is a ? and a X sign. Then somtimes it says with a ! inside a yellow triangle and it says i have a trojan horse in my system. And my system is going to go slowly because of it.
you can download trend micro and use this for the 30 days free this will get rid of your virus and then go with a free software after that.
