I just added to my Mudskipper harem. (Pic heavy) :D

I'm being TOTALLY honest here

My Skippers are EASIER to care for than my other fish/tanks

There are a lot less worries about water issues seeing how they are out of the water 90% of the time.
Because of this, they are very ammonia tolerant

I only have 6 gal of water in their 40 breeder tank, & I don't even treat it

I keep the SG at 1.010, & replace evaporated water, w/o salt, weekly
I do total wc every 3 weeks or so

I cannot stress enough that if anyone gave them a shot, they would NOT regret it for a second

Those guys are ADORABLE!!! I want some!!! I know I would be sitting there all day long just giggling. They are so comical looking. I just don't know a thing about how to take care of them. Girl, you are a fantastic skipper mommy. And, I know how hard you worked to save their lives during your power failure. You are their hero!!

Wow after seeing this I'm seriously considering getting some. I'd have to find some locally here though and get a complete setup but maybe it's time for me to get the Multiple Tank syndrome!:evil_lol: Anyway I was wondering is that a glass lid and what kind of lighting would you suggest? I would like to add some plants. I love how your looks! Thanks for any help. It may be a while until I can pull all this off it's freezing here in buffalo! I think I'll have to wait till it warms up alittle even locally the drive may stress them too much in this cold.

Melody, that was so very kind of you to say
If you EVER decide to get some, I will help you anyway I can
I don't profess to be an expert, all I can do is pass along what I have done, & what works for me.

Thanks again for your kind words

I was wondering what kind of lighting you would suggest? also minimum tank size? Thanks, Lisa

I have a glass Versa-top on their tank, and also have a screen top
The glass top is on constantly now to keep their air temp in the tank very warm.
I'm also just using the strip light that came with the 40 breeder, but before that, when I had my original 3 in the 20 long, I used 2 shoplights from Walmart with 40 watt bulbs sitting on the screen top.

I don't suggest the shoplights on top of the versa tops for the obvious reason of cracking the glass.

For plants, basically all that will do well because of the brackish water, is Mangrove seedlings which I ordered from "Top Tropics in Fla.
They had an awesome deal, 3 plants for the price of 1, so $7.95 for 3!
I just bought 6 & it cost me $15.90

Again, anyone who has questions, feel free to ask
I will happily share what has/is working for me :D

Lisa,
A regular striplight is fine!

As far as tank size, I personally wouldn't go with anything less than 20 long.
Height is wasted on the skippers, and you want quite a bit of land surface as opposed to water.

My 1st 3 skippers had lots of room in my 20 long

Oh thank you I almost bought a terrarium Aquarium off of craigslist now I think it may not be a good idea since it is more tall than wide. I also didn't realize that plants don't do well in brackish waters seems I have a lot to learn thanks. So Mangrove seedlings grow ok with just the original strip-light? Is that what's in the picture or are they fake plants? Excuse my ignorance.

I'm also toying with the idea of using my 40g and upgrading my fish to a bigger tank I wonder how hubby would feel about that:uhoh::shakehead:

I'm sure you could make most anything work, but myself, I prefer length & width over height. It just makes more sense to me :)

I have 2 Mangroves in there that I bought when I bought the Skippers, the rest are silk which I'll remove when I plant the other 6 mangroves
My original mangroves grew well, getting their 2nd set of leaves.

You tell your hubby that I said it was ok for you to upgrade :D

These are my original 2 Mangroves
