I know fish bowls are frowned upon but...

Point well taken. It does take a few months for them to grow to 3/4" , and I see Sparkxx has plenty of room for them (empty 25g?). I guess it depends on how often the relatives are visited...if once a week, no problem...if once a year, not such a good idea.

yeah I have to agree with angel aswell lol I visit them 3-4 times a week, so I guess no problem? could I just do water changes then instead of having to do all this DIY. I have to choose my subjects for school and stuff and, its kinda stressful xD I know work is ten times worse but having to revise to get into credit classes (highest class) is a nightmare! and changing the water and decholinating it doesn't take that long :)

what about chili/micro rasboras?

I'll have check these guys out, never seen them in my LFS lol

also, sorry you guys who have to read this and think "poor things goin in there" but I can keep it tidy

The isue is not just wether or not the tank is kept tidy, but also that such a small tank is simply too small for them to move in. Fish need space just like humans do.. putting ANY fish in such a small tnak is a little like making your dog or cat live in a closet. It's just not fair to the fish. :(

I know thats what I meant :( and I honestly would be feel so sad if I put a fish in there and it wasn't happy :( I could just grow plants in it then? I wouldn't mind because I have never had real plants in a tank before

For plants, you'll need a desk lamp or something to directly shine on the bowl. Gravel by itself is not ideal, but would be fine for Java fern attached to wood, or floating Java moss. It is too coarse for most plants to happily root to it. Nothing much beyond that, you can add some fertilizer once you get going...

Now shrimp, are another story. They will need to be kept no colder than 65 F degrees (18 C), so you may need a bowl heater if it gets colder than this in the house. Even at these low temps, they will breed very slowly, if at all. Warmer would be better.

This article should help a lot:

If you follow her advice for planting bowls and use potting soil as a base, with gravel or sand over it, do water changes until the water clears. Then plant the plants...look at your local selection, then post here :)

No use in us recommending plants that may not be available in Scotland.

thank you!

so, here is the plan, I have a desk lamp anyway so :) floating java moss, with a heater (I WILL get one of these) followed by 3RCS and thats me set then :) with weekly water changes all should work out

cool :) thanks for replying a billion times! lol
