I need help keeping Black ghost knife fish, ive never kept them before!

Clear PVC pipes are bad for BGKs. Sure, it lets you see them, but it doesn't provide the hiding spot a BGK needs. "Ghost tubes" as they are called, let light in, and one of the reason the BGKs hide is to get out the light.

You can get both then, they like the safety of the tubing! Let it choose, one day it might want to show off for you but I would just set up my tank with rocks and caves for it to hide in and only buy a clear PvC tube. That way if it wanted the dark it could and that way if it wanted the tube I could see my fish. It is nuts to buy a fish and have it hidden all the time. I once had three blueberry loaches and they would hide 24 hours a day, they were so pretty, I wanted to see them. I took the advice of some over zealous fish nut (which by the way there are a lot on the internet) and had a tank that I did not enjoy, looking back I would not keep anything for them to hind in. I have read all about loaches and know now that many people keep their loaches out in the open and they are happy. They swim around fast and are fun fish. Mine were in a cave for 3 years. Just use common sense if the fish looks stressed then by all means get a hiding place but if they look happy or at least well, then enjoy them!
