I need to order it today for a 75 gal because I'll get double VIP points from Bigalsonline. I do not know what is more important. Most of them give you an up to gallon size on them and some of them give a GPH on them. Which is more important?
For example:
Eheim 2217 is up to 160 gal but only 264 GPH
Fluval 404 is up to 100 Gal. but 340 GPH
XP3 up to 175 gal and does not say GPH
Go Figure?
Which is the best for my money? There is no more than a $20 difference.

Thank you for the help. Does anyone know what the XP3's GPH is? If the GPH is the most important than the Fluval 404 will not be enough for a 75 gal. I was trying to get away from the hang on the back filter. I have a Emperor 400 and a HOT Mag but they are loud and irritating. I also have notice most of the canister filters do not give GPH, or at least not on Bigals.
Thanks again,
Trina

Marineland Emperor 400 HOB - 400gph certified. Works great, easy and versatile. Cant say enough about them...

XP3 is 350 GPH (as per their website: http://www.aquariumpharm.com/filstar.html)

I use the XP2 on our 75 gallon and it is doing a great job.
I cannot hear it running.

I would go for the eheim 2217. You can always add powerheads for extra circulation if you need it. The eheim will last you a long time. I have heard negatives on the 404. If anything I would wait for a fluval 405. They are brand new and supposedly better. I still would go for the eheim though, lots of customizing in the canister and a huge reservoir.

But the Ehiem 2217 only has 264 GPH. If GPH is the most important then I would have to get something to add with it which costs more than I can spare for now. I'm thinking the XP3 might be my best bet. I'm going to look at the Cascade 1500 first though, because it also has 350 GPH also. If anyone has heard anything bad about these, please let me know. Thank you for your help. This is frustrating.

Fluval 404! Works great and its very quiet, its in the same room I sleep and the bubbles are louder then the filter

I have a 304 on my 55 and it does run quiet and has a nice powerful outflow. I wouldn't worry too much on the gph so long as it's 3-4x gph. 5X and up is more for messy fish IMO.
