Only one fish is showing symptoms (1 or 2 specks in his fin).

In the tank are (3) Panda Cories, (2) Peacock Gudgeons (which I think just had babies - none survived), (2) Nerite snails and (6) Malaysian Trumpet Snails.

What is the best course of action? Is my beneficial bacteria doomed?

Thank you.

This is potentially going to sound rude, but that's not my intent. It's just the easiest way to get you a comprehensive answer. There are several threads already out there for the treatment of ich. Perusing those should provide you all the answers you need, including some things you may not have thought of yet.

No, your beneficial bacteria is most certainly not doomed. It'll be just fine. Most use the salt and heat method.

Not rude at all! I appreciate the response. After I posted the thread, I realized that it’s probab a very popular question so I did do a search.

I was going to do salt and heat, but I thought you couldn’t use that method with catfish and snails.

Either way, I’m not even 100% sure it’s Ich. It could be another type of fungus. I will keep searching and reading.

Thank you.

There is a herbal product called Herbtana that works well and is safe for all fish, plants, invertebrates. Something like $7 or $8 for a small bottle.

When last I treated for ich, my (malaysian trumpet) snails seemed unperturbed. I can't remember if I had my BN at the time or not.

I would recommend the heat and salt treatment. Will not harm others in tank.

Because I’m not 100% sure it’s ich (so far it’s been just one spot on the fin of a peacock gudgeon), i decided to try a course of Pimafix first. No one in the tank is flashing.

Also, I think the fish that had the fry were my panda cories. I’ve saw two survivors this morning. Hope they make it!

I tried to take some, but all were blurry! Because the spot is on one of the fins on the side of the fish, it’s always moving.

I will try again tomorrow.
