Hello everyone!

I have been thinking about getting a cheap 10 gallon set up to house some crabs in. I've been thinking red clawed crabs or fiddler crabs. From what I have been fiddler crabs will need a way to get out of the water, which can be done easily. I also understand they need brackish water correct?

Now red clawed crabs I have been getting mixed answers. I've come to the conclusion that they need brackish water. But I know there was a thread somewhere on here where a person said that they have kept a red clawed crab in a fresh water set up without any problems. I just wanted to know what have people here had good luck with when it comes to keeping these crabs. Again I have been getting mixed answers when it comes to if they need access to dry land.

Thanks!

Look into Thai micro crabs too. they are neat

oooooo I can't believe I didn't think of those:) I love those!

EDIT:

Ok so far from what I have read about Thai micro crabs is that they are fully aquatic, don't get big at all, and live in fresh water. If this is the case, I am going to steer towards these guys, they sound like the perfect crab for me!

Does anyone have any info on where I can get these guys at a decent price? From what I have read they fo from about 7-20 dollars a crab, I just can't find where to buy them lol

Only know of them on aquabid. Here's the current auction for them:

http://www.aquabid.com/cgi-bin/auction/auction.cgi?fwinverts&1238602989

For 7 of them the bidding is now up to 51$ from a seller with a clean record. You may get away with them for 10$ each ;)

from everything I've read, and I've done a lot of investigation as a crab lover and previous red claw keeper, vampire crabs are the easiest to keep in freshwater, and are good in a community. They do need land, and like to climb, but have the benefit of reproducing in freshwater and having claws that don't open wide enough to be a threat to fish. They also are very communal, so they won't kill each other either.

haha well I'm looking for aquatic crabs, not the kind that live where...well we all know where.

Right now it's just something I'm pondering. I don't have the tank yet, so I wouldn't have an appropriate living space for them right now. As soon as I take down one of my smaller tanks I'll be looking to get some AQUATIC crabs, or a larger tank possibly with some crabs:)
