Today my wife and I were doing some odd jobs around the house that needed to be done and the whole time the dog was trying to "help" us.
He had us laughing so hard at times our sides hurt! Just thinking about how much of a clown he is got me to wondering about his prior owners.
The paperwork I got from a rescue group said "abused and neglected." He was removed from the home and wound up at a shelter and then eventually to us. Evidentially the case was one where you sign the dog over or get charged and go to court. Breed-wise we have no idea exactly what he is other than a clown. He is not a chewer, cat-hater, not a finicky eater and is house-broken.
I have some understanding if a person got a difficult dog and was in over their head which doesn't excuse neglect or abuse. But I would understand rehoming. We have had him long enough to know whether or not he has behavioral issues. We have only to tell him he is a "bad dog" and he puts himself into timeout in the bathroom (not something we taught him). When he feels ready he comes back out and all is well with his world.
I know nobody has the answers as to why people mistreat animals, but it sure makes me wonder about who is the intelligent species.
