Ich STILL not gone...

It's BACK, I see ONE spot on ONE of my three clown loaches. I hadn't seen anything on the loaches in 5 days. I've been treating the same each day.
This is VERY frustrating. I've been using "Quick Cure"... but at half dose do the the loaches. I had been exceeding half dose at 38-40 drops instead of 60. After it disapears, I dropped the treatment to 30 to make it easier on the Loaches and Tetras.

I'm slowing adding SALT to my tank now.. plants be @$@#$#. I'm continuing the Quick Cure. I just added 10tsp, today, this evening, I'll add another 10, and hopefully I'll ahve about 70-75 tsp on the tank by Tuesday.
That should give me more than 1tsp/gallon.

Any advice?

I also have a Krib with fungus in my 37. I've been using Melafix and I'm not sure how to handle that. I've read that a salt bath can help, I've also heard you can use a q-tip with certain medications.. I've even seen mecorachrome suggested!?!?!? Peroxide and Formalin/Malachite Green, or something blue.

Whew... lots going on, and I've got some fish coming in Wednesday, but at this time the only tank I can put them in is the 12g...

my advice is you are buying too many medications and mixing them and it is all a disaster waiting to happen.

For ich--no meds if you can avoid it. Most people find that salt & heat does the trick.

How to treat ich: increase temperature (gradually) to 82-86 degrees. Gradually add 1 to 3 teaspoons of salt (table salt, sea salt, aquarium salt) per gallon of water (pre-mix salt with some tank water, then add gradually). It may take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks to rid the tank of ich--maintain treatment for 1 week after all signs of the ich is gone.

One thing to remember with White spot is that even if the fish look fine, the bacteria could still be in the water. Always run a full course even if the fish look fine, never stop half way or such.

Several Comments:

1 - Tortured Soul, I have 3 tanks.. I am not mixing any medications. The ICH is in my 60 gallon community, the fungus is in a 37 gallon with 3 kibs. I should not have mixed the problems in one message, as they are unrelated.

2 - Thanks for the link, but I've already read it several times.

3- I've been running QUICK CURE for 12 days... the ich appeared to be gone on day 6, but popped back up on day 9. I never stopped the medication. But I did decrease it from a 65% dose down to a 50%(I have loaches)

4 - I started adding Salt today

OK, It's confirmed.. It's an official relapse of ICK. It looked to have been gone, but it's back. Just when you thought it was safe.

Here is what I think did it... It's recommended that you dose 50% for sensitive fish, but I had been dosing 38-40 drops of QuickCure as apposed to 30. That's only cuttine back 1/3.... After the ich had gone, I cut the dosage to 28-30. I DID have a RAM die on me, so i wanted to be careful. Apparently a half dose doesn't really do it.

So far, I've added 30 tsp of Salt, and I hope to have it up to about 75-80 by tomorrow morning. I'm also continuing the 40 drops of quick cure. The temp is at about 82-83. I'm guessing that the ICH should be gone(from past experience) by Tuesday or Wednesday, and I'll continue the Quick Cure for at least week after that.

The bad news is that I'm recieving new Rams on Wednesday, so I''ll have to put them in my only safe tank.. the 12 gallon. They'll have it all to themselves, so they should be OK. That should FORCE me to do a quarentine, and I may just leave them in their(supposed to be a pair) and see if I can breed them.

Your still playing with the quick cure stuff.
Now your going to do a half quick cure and a half salt attempt, lol.
Good luck.

As far as advice goes, you have been advised and shown Dave's salt treatment method I don't know how many times now, and yet you refuse to follow it.

Half? Never said I was going half!

You obviously didn't read my message

I wonder why you answered at all, if you have nothing useful to say, you should probably keep it to yourself.

You obviously don't follow useful advice. I've looked at all your Ich posts and the great advice people offered to you, including myself ( http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78458 ) that you didn't follow and it made me angry.

You still have the Ich problem which should be long gone by now.
