let me suggest that if some fishes died from the 'intense heat', then the 'treatment' was anything but successful. So far it worked for me but some fishes died from the intense heat
I just recommend just plain heat 88-90 degress for a week or more..So far it worked for me but some fishes died from the intense heat..But this is a far better method in my opinion..I just got my clown loaches cured from Ick by just using heat..And everyone knows that clowns are sensative to anything in the water..
Also, yes you might have cold spots in the tank, but they will go thru areas where it is above what they can tolerate..

a treatment method that works is one that cures the ich without killing fish.

You don't want to use salt as it will kill your fish? But yet you state that the heat alone will lead to a few losses? Sure you can have your snippy attitude but at least back it up with results.
