ID please?

Well, I've bred daffodils in the past and I am currently breeding brichardi, and neither looked like the fish in your pick...it would have to be a very small juvenile to not have the lyre tail shape yet...too much blue in the body and yellow in the fins..unless the color in the original pic is off...I must admit the blue line under the eye is similiar...shape of the mouth looks wrong in the pic...can you get a full side shot? Could be a hybrid...Or I could just be getting senile early, which is a distinct possibility  Any way, I ain't throwin in the towel just yet! :) Please, more pics!

What kind of light do you keep yours under? I breed pulchers, and they all have blue on their bodies under my aquarium lights. I have one pulcher in a 75g which has a normal light, and the blue doesn't show.

Also, I have noticed a slight difference in the development of the lyretail, which could be gender related, but not enough evidence there to judge the sex. But I do notice some young develop their lyretail alot sooner then others, its usually about half and half. However, if you look at the other pictures TYPO posted, there is a clearly developed lyretail, and furthermore from those pictures you can see the fish is clearly a pulcher with no signs of deformation or hyrbidization.

Sorry...I thought those were identification pics from a website, not the same fish as the original pic...I couldn't see any evidence of the lyre tail on the original pic..must be the angle...the towel is thrown in.... :bowing:

hee hee... a few things.

1) yes, those are all my pics, i took them myself :D
2) they both are juvaniles, they are about 1.5" long
3) how do i say this.. right, well, im a she! :D

but yes, they will be moved to an 18 soon, with a couple other fish. maybe.
YoFishBoy, how are the tempermant of the fish? I have found many sites with many differing views.

When they breed, they will keep any other fish pinned to the corners in a smaller tank....In a large tank they will fend for their territory quite well, they hold their own and then some...they are easy to breed...I temporarely kept a small pair in a 5g until I could set up a new tank for them, and they spawned in the 5g...I am currently breeding a pair of N. Brichardi, which are a little bigger than the daffodils, in a 29g by themselves....the older spawns help take care of the younger spawns..they are good parents, with one exception...In a tank that is too small, and there are too many generations of babies, they might begin eating a few...which makes sense in the fish world...great fish, very pretty, even to a color-blind guy who had trouble id'ing them ;) ...enjoy!

you are colorblind? that's pretty cool. i mean, it isn't... but >< ok, not cool, but very interesting.

that being said! Im hoping i dont have a breeding pair. i like them for their color. I am hoping they are fairly docile? i want to get them out of my 29 community tank (only tank i was able to put them in) and into their own tank.

My form of color blindness is for shades and degrees of color - I can identify the primary colors, but differentiation between shades is difficult - dark colors are tough, too - the wife has to help with sock colors! Any way, put the little guys in the 18g and see what happens - they might both be the same sex and it should be OK - I have a couple of extra brichardi males in my 90g mainly Mbuna tank and they do fine - remember, with fish there are no guarantees and a lot of exceptions....good luck!

i went to school wth a guy what was completely color blind, that was interesting.
anyway, back to the fish.. ill try, im crossing my fingers and hoping they are the same sex.

on a sadder note, the angel i was going to put into the 18 with them seems to be passing away as we speak. i dont know what happened. but, oh well. you win some, you lose some. :( i liked this guy too, he was gorgeous.

edit: could they go in my 18? id move out the lepo. im just worried the convict would go after them? the severum is very mild tempered.:

18 gallon
1 leopard danio
2 harlequinne rasboras
6 kuhli loaches (4 P. javanicus + 2 Acanthophthalmus kuhlii)
1 leporinus fasciatus
1 gold severum
1 pleco (chris)
1 clown pleco
1 convict
1 ADF (caboose)

yes, i know, pleco has to leave. its going in the 40 when i get it, then going into one of my boyfriends ponds this summer.

edit again: id like to put some threadfin rainbows or celebes rainbows with them, if they are mild tempered enough. at the store i got them at, the parents and the 40+ babies were all in a tank amongst some tetras, and they didnt even give them a passing glance.
