I guess it's a rainbow, for the two top fins...
 
Nothing particularly distinctive on this fish, colours are quite washed out, nice choice for a good challenge.

Definently looks like a Gudgeon of some sort to me, though the colouration isn't too distinctive.

My guess would be:
Gobiomorphus australis (Striped Gudgeon)

Though there are a couple others in my mind for further guesses.

Here is a better pic of it when it was a Juvie.. and no it's none of the above that have been listed. The colors are usually washed out like that as well with out the pic.

Well... it looks like a typical gudgeon shape to me, though maybe a goby, are the pelvic fins fused?
