I know that others are concerned like me about the chlorine and chloramines in their tap water during water changes. I also don't like the idea of just adding treatment to the tank and then adding the tap water. So, I was thinking, would it be possible to use one of those Mircle-Gro garden fertilizers for water changes. I am talking about the one that has the bottle attached where you put the fertilizer and then attach it to the hose. The water treatment could go in the bottle. Any thoughts, ideas?

you can get dosers.... not sure if they have them in sizes available to mix the small quantities of stuff needed, but i believe they are called hydro gap eductor (yes thats spelled correctly)

here is a random link I found, Gives some info on these things, But I do know they make them in smaller sizes, I actually have one that was used for mixing soap and cleaning chemicals..... which if I could find a new one, would probably mix the de-chlor in mostly proper proportions.

im sure in order for it to work, you would have to find either an eductor that was rated for the correct dose (which for Prime is miniscule) or formulate a dosage of conditioner that is matched to the output of the eductor.. if they could make one that had a fitting for a python that could be a mega-bucks idea!

If you could figure out the mixing ratio, you could use that and make a mix of Prime (or whatever) and water to fill the cup. Fill the cup with the needed Prime and whatever water was necessary to allow the Prime to be dispersed into the flow for the entire fill. For example, it's 1ml Prime for 10G of water. Now if the dispenser held a dose for 100 gallons, you take the dosing container, and add Prime and 1/10 of the volume of that container. Run 10 gallons through it and you're dosed. In theory.

That or you're back to a bucket :)

I never did provide the link..... wtf...... anyway i surely cant find it now, but google will turn up MANY results for eductor (where do you think I found the link I didnt provide lol)

EDIT

here, a link prodiving info on the 3 basic types of eductors available.

I was trying to figure out prime dosing by the dropper last night. Got a calibrated childrens medicine dropper and back filled a unmarked dropper with 1ml of water. I marked the level and then counted the drops until empty. So 20 drops are in 1 ml of water which doses 10 gallons or 2 drops per gallon. Just to be sure I retook the count with a dropper full of prime and got the same results.

I hope this helps.

Well, regardless of the dose rate, continuous or incremental, it still takes a certain amount of time for the reaction to happed and get fully dispersed.

I have dosed straight to the tank for years then filled and never had an issue. With Prime or a half dozen other conditioners.

i 2sd that.

if your really worried i would look into a holding tank. that i am sure would be your best bet.

That's what I use now but I want to get a python and use my tank for something else:dance:
