Idiots on the loose

Good deal/Bad buy it's all relative to your area. Sure the general rule for used tanks is $1 a gallon but if it is the cheapest you have seen in your area then it is a good deal for your area. There will always be a better deal somewhere.

Exactly right!! All depends on where you live. For example, where I live you can buy a brand new 20g with absolutely everything in it, including food for about $40.00. That's canopy, lights, gravel, nets, filter, cheesy decorations, air stones, water conditioner and heater. The whole enchilada!! I thought that was a pretty good price.
Whereas I know in the UK and Australia their aquarium prices including fish are exorbitant!

yes, was wondering where the ad was posted. It does seem relative to where you live. Where we are, there are awesome deals on used tanks every July. To get the best ones for brand new, we compare Big Als and PetSmart. I think a lot of the time people post ads like that hoping to get what they paid.

Sometimes I feel as if people are total narrow minded idiots and can't lower the price for something used. I mean once you buy a car or a game the price is immediately slashed in half and no chance of getting a full price a year later or a month later. I've seen tons of adds on kijiji (nobody uses craigslist for pets in elora) for a 10 gallon with goldfish filter, canopy and gravel for 100$ when I could buy the same thing at Wal*Mart for 45$(excluding the fish). I've also seen a 90gallon aquarium with 5 tangs a couple cleaner shrimp, a black stand, a canopy, filter and "priceless" cycled water (lol cycled water?) for 4000 dollars :lol2:.

Yes, I envy you in the US for the prices you get, and the range.

Also, lots of people have 'war stories' about the fantastic deals they got, but that doesn't mean you can expect a great deal every time. Nobody posts about the time they kind of got ripped off, or paid a bit too much because they didn't want to wait for a better deal to come along.

ok here's one for you. Bought a 29g, stand and all supplies for $20 about 4 months ago from a girl I work with on occasion. All supplies had been stored unclean (yep straight to the garbage) and still waiting for the stand to show up.

It was posted in my area where a discount store or mall is less than 30 minutes away. A 20gallon complete setup (sans a stand) is $50-$75 new in most of those stores.

sounds like someone figured they could get more than what they put into it. Too bad it didnt work that way. We just had to give away a pair of beautiful angels to our LFS full well knowing they are going to sell them for likely ten times what we paid for them.
This is one hobby where you know you are always going to spend more than you get back. lol

then want the original price back!

This really bothers me, I see so many ads for various things where the seller puts "I paid $750 for this 6 months ago, so think that $750 is a fair price as I just want to make my money back"..... errr no, what you are selling is now used, whether it be 2nd, 3rd, 4th hand etc and therefore not worth what you paid for it.

It's annoying.
