:wall: I swear! I am SO pissed at myself! I let that woman at the LFS deceive me again! I went in there just to talk to her about my powerhead, my cloudy tank problem, and look at food. She knows how impulsive I am, so she shows me one of these:

Vespicula depressifrons

I was TOLD it was a Butterfly Goby, that's alot more cuter a name than Wasp Fish or Leaf goblinfish! They are capable of stinging, they require marine salt (I have none) and they require LIVE FOOD. I bought three, I have then in my 5 1/2 gallon by themselves, I've tried to get them to eat frozen bloodworms (only one ate) and all of them ignored tubifex worms.

:help: I don't know what to do. If I'd have known this, I wouldn't have bought them. I guess I'll be taking them back today. :irked: Does anyone keep these, or have any useful advice? I don't like the idea of having to supply live food, so I guess I have no choice but to return them.

If I had a nickel for every time this woman sold me a fish under misinformation, I'd.... be richer. Like I said, I'm an idiot for listening to her again! But, you never know whether she'd just mis-informed herself, or being a clever salesperson.

I have this written out for her:

Wasp Fish, Leaf Goblinfish (NOT Butterfly Goby!!)

Neovespicula depressifrons
Origin: New Guinea, Indonesia, India, Philippines
Water: Brackish (use marine salt, not aquarium sea salt)
Foods: PICKY EATER!! Live foods, prefer bring shrimp, small feeder fish, ghost shrimp, live worms
Cautions: VENOMOUS!! They have spines in their dorsal fins that will give a painful sting.

Been there. Cute little guy. How big do they get?

I understand your frustration. I too am an impulsive buyer. I bough my Amazon cichlid under the pretence that it was a black belt and would get as big as my Oscars and green terror. I’m happy with the little guy. Since then I have started to do research before I buy any fish. Its a good thing to because I almost ended up with two Parachromis dovii (wolf cichlids) that were labeled spotted dovii and the max size would be 8 to 10 inches. I took pics with my phone, got the latin name and jumped online when I got home. I think it should be a crime to sell you a fish under false pretences ie Butterfly Goby when its a Wasp fish.

I doubt she was lying, prolly going off the POP signage.

I think you need to find a different fs!! I hate when they lie!!
It happens all the time, Rachel. What makes this one actually dangerous is being not informed of its actual defense mechanism.

Not much more than 2 inches, I'd say.

They are very cute, but my excitement over them was completely dashed when I read that they needed more than I could give them. I'm about to pack them up to go back.

Oh, Rachelmayt? I'm going to wait until I have either my money back, or fish of equal value in hand, then tell them I won't be coming back as I don't appreciate being mislead. They should care more about the fish, and do a little research first.

I so know how you feel. I bought 2 of the prettiest pieces of grapevine last night. They guy assured me that it would be ok in aquariums. Then I come here to rave about my find and learn that it will rot and grow fungus in a tank. Grrr!

maybe the LFS recieved the fish labeled as a butterfly goby, so therefore thats what they told you. people call fish different names. That doesnt mean i buy it cause the LFS called it a cuter name than the other store.

Regardless you should have went home and researched it before you bought it anyway to see if you could properly care for it.

Im so tired of everyone blaming the LFS. You said it yourself it was an impulse buy, and that's the biggest problem here. We all know that LFS's have a bad reputation.

BTW, i've been looking for those for as long as i can remember. What's the name of the store you got it ? PM me please.
