I've had this "JD" for about 7 months. When I got it it was very plain and pale. But the more she grows the more I think she's not a JD but something else. She is about 5 1/2 inches.Take a look. Does anyone have any idea what this fish is, or is it a JD?http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o226/Batmanjay28/Jaysonsfish030.jpg http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o226/Batmanjay28/Jaysonsfish005.jpg

He is a pic of my 7 inch female texas cichlid....http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o226/Batmanjay28/Jaysonsfish017-1.jpg

I think it looks like a JD but with a tall body. Maybe a hybrid? hmmm:confused:

You know MacFish you just might be on to something. That second pic looks weird now that I've really looked at it. I thought originally it was just a funny angle.

It's a hybrid of a texas or something like one, it's a female if you care.

it looks like it could be a hybrid...BUT..

dempseys sometimes take different shapes due to tank space or water conditions

i know of true JD's with higher looking bodies like texas cichlids

i'd say its just something that happens..

I agree. Not a dempsey. Atleast not a true dempsey. My guess would be a carpintis, or it's cousin a texas. But I am leaning more towards the Carrpintis. The color scheme is very similar to mine when breeding or in an aggressive stand the head goes light and the rest of the fishes body behind the gills goes very dark.

The carpintis and texas are almost the exact same with the texas spots being much smaller and more numerous as oppose to the carpintis that has less spots and the spots tend to be much larger.

Looks like a dempsey-texas mix of some kind. Coloring is dempsey-like, but in the second picture, the body looks a lot like a texas.
