Injury questions OK here, too? Shubunkin with wing damage...

I'm confused... typing too fast for the brain to keep up, Lupe? :D
Haha! I think that's how I said it, Iris. I sometimes do type faster than my brain can keep up that some members ask if I am saying some things right or having a blonde moment.

Keep up the good work, Jennie. We are all rooting for you and Indy. She's a beauty. Any pics of Pearl?

Lupin,
Pix of Pearl are hard to get at the moment. For all Indy is the 'injured' one, she herds Pearl around the tank like a watchdog. Whenever I go near the tank, Indy scoots herself between Pearl and any food, so I have been feeding them in opposite corners. If Indy sees Pearl get a bite, she swims over, gets under Pearl and nudges at her belly, like she is trying to get her to spit it back out. When they are not eating they are the best of buddies, but feeding time is a whole different story.

Here are some shots from before Pearl came inside. She is surprisingly "deep" from top to bottom. Most of the other comets are roughly carrot shaped, but she gets deep before her gills and stays that way almost to her tail. More an 'eye' shape than a torpedo or carrot.

Quick update
Did the last dosing of Quick Cure yesterday afternoon. Today, yet another water change and back to carbon in the filter, per the directions. Indy's gill cover is still damaged looking, but no longer green or fuzzy--or both! Her fin has healed to a stump in the injured area. but shows no signs of new growth lately. Any recommendations for how much longer to keep them indoors?

now that looks like a normal fish,.. on the way to healing,.. that green was a warning to me,. didn't know what it was but it shouldn't have been there,..
she is a real princess,.. good job,.. and good luck with the rest of them,..

but as i always learned in farming,.. don't be too quick to dismiss dease, give it some time just in case it tries to return in a week or so,.. make sure there are NO places for infection to start again before you place her back outside where keeping and eye on here is harder,..JFYI..

comes from over 30 years tending to all animals and all kinds of trouble,.. lol

What a relief this must be to see such a dramatic recovery. I'm so happy it's going so well.

I like the advice dixienut gave you about taking a little time still before returning them to the pond... so I'll second that. They're both such lovely fish.. nice job getting them well again!

Nothing like going back to work only to get a message from the kids that Indy is hurt bad and part of her face is coming off...

The part of her gillcover that was yellowish is falling off. Right at the moment it is hanging half off the side of her head and flapping around. Doesn't seem to be bothering HER, but makes me a little queezy. I have seen enough threads here with poor fishies loosing skin that it made me head home soon as I could...

So, will she be ok this way? Her gill tissue looks good, far as I could tell, no damage or discoloration...

I don't see anything wrong with her gill tissues at all except the gill cover could potentially get ripped off judging from the pics. I have yet to see damaged gill covers regrowing from an injury and other probable causes so if the gill cover gets removed, then it may not regrow but I hope I am wrong on this, on account of Indy. I really feel for that girl.

The gill cover is barely hanging on. It is flapping like a piece of paper in the wind. From the looks of it, I think it will be completely off in the next day or so. Can she live--in the pond-- if her gill cover does not grow back?
