Humans are hunters by nature! It is okay to eat any type of meat. The human body requires meat, unless you want to live you life taking suplements. I personally hunt quite a few times a year and there is nothing wrong with it. It is nature and it is the way things were meant to be. We have incisors and minor canine teeth for a reason! So I say Eat all the fish, beef, chicken, pork, and game you want. But I would still recommend buying freerun/organic meats rather than regular grocery store meat as it is full of steroids and additives.

I do agree with this! Any animal that is being depleted by humans to the degree of being endangered should be left alone as best as possible.

Freshwater fish are my favourite. I would take fresh perch or walleye anyday over halibut. I live on the coast and only eat salt water fish now but I definately prefer fresh water.

As for the shark. This is definately a fish I would not eat. There was a show on sharks that talked about the amount of shark eaten in (I think) Hong Kong. The sharks were full of mercury. The worst thing to eat was shark fin soup. Apparently it has 10 times the amount of mercury as the rest of the fish.

I eat fish whenever I can. My gf doesn't like any sort of seafood, so I don't get to eat fish as often as I like. I eat all types and am willing to try any species, as long as it's cooked. Since I'm a hunter also, meat is a big part of my diet. It's all about moderation.

About the Atkins diet. First the claim that it's all water weight is not true. The intial weight is water weight but the continued weight loss experienced after 7-10 days cannot be because of water. Otherwise people would look like human raisins. Atkins encourages people to include multivitamins and fiber into their diet as it is in minimal supply during the initial aspects of the diet. It is reintroduced to some degree in the later parts. And no, there are no long term studies of the diet that are available at this time, but I believe that there are some being conducted.

The current research into which diet is best for maintaining long term weight loss implies that the actual diet done is not the important aspect. It's how well the specific person can adhere to that diet that will determine their long term success. An example is some people having better results with South Beach rather than Atkins since they find it easier to maintain.
 
Spartan I agree with you on the Atkins; I work out alot. Everyone in the gym seems to be on some kind of protien, and consuming way too much of it. With out the proper amount of digestive enzymes you get from other foods such as vegetables. The protien overload is too hard on your body. Then take away the carbs your bound for some kind of health problems, as your taking away the main source of energy for the body. Also I think vegans can be healthy if they eat right. One of the top iron man athletes in the world is a vegan.
 
I don't eat fish but that's because I'm a vegetarian. The reasons behind why I am one are my own and in result are difficult to explain to someone who isn't.

I wouldn't worry about hypocricy by eating fish. Wouldn't that mean by eating plants and keeping them in your backyard or garden is hypocritical too? They are intelligent enough to grow, evolve, and adapt. IMO some plant do actually have their own personalities.

I really don't think there is any diet out there that's healthy aside from eating right and excercizing. But that's just my HO as an athlete and vegetarian.

MMMMmmm, fish! I prefer ocean fish to freshwater, but love both. The best fish I've ever had was a catfish that I caught, walking right back to my camp, breaded it in corn meal and cooked over the fire. WOW that was good.

My boyfriend is very picky about fish and so far will only eat one or two types. He thinks he doesn't like ocean fish, but I am 75% certain that it's only because you can't get truly fresh ocean fish here in MN.

As far as the diets go, I think the South Beach diet is the most balanced "fad diet" around. I used it to make some changes in my diet and it is an excellent diet for diabetics. (Diabetes runs in my family, so I am cautious about that.) I don't adhere to it strictly, but I was, literally, a carb-junkie. I was eating so many over-processed breads, pastas, etc and it was very unhealthy for me, though I didn't realize it. Now, I eat whole-grain breads only, pasta very rarely, old-fashioned oatmeal instead of quick or instant (more fiber in the old-fashioned) and limit my sugar intake, which used to be quite high, even though I didn't eat sweets.

I had been trying for years to learn how to eat healthfully, but not quite getting it right until the South Beach diet was developed and that enabled me to FINALLY get it right.

BUT, back to topic.... FISH = YUMMY! :D
