My long-finned albino BN is out regardless of lighting conditions. He's very gregarous and will take algae wafers right off the end of a long tong. My regular albino was much more secretive in his previous tank. In a new tank, I got smart and put my driftwood (with "caves" underneath) more toward the front of the tank and not hidden by plants. I now see him all the time because he's in his "cave"

IMO it comes down to individual personalities. I've had a few different BN plecs and some were active during the day and others were never out...
It only took my bristlenose pleco about a month to get used to the lighting conditions and come out during the day, but still not alot.
Just a total aside -- I really adore my BN plecos. I have two very "bristly" males in a 58 and the never bother each other or anyone else for that matter. And when my boy swims around with his long fins flowing in the water, it's very dramatic . . . 
if your plecos never do adjust to the light, try this. Turn you lights out a littlke bit sooner than you normally would, and get a low wattage red light to put over the top of the tank. They dont see red as light, its bright enough that you can see in, and they think its dark
I have a marble/albino sailfin that doesn't mind the light. I wonder if it's a characteristic of the albino breeds...
Actually I've found that Albino breeds of anything tend to like light less, it's interesting that yours would be the opposite.
I think alot has to do with size, my common and sailfin are out continously, but they are 15" and 9" respectively. My smaller vampire plec (4") barely is ever seen except to snatch up bits of shrimp offered on a grabber (don't know what it is called, got it at the hardware store, its for grabbing smll screws etc in hard to get places). My L356 is somewhat in between the two extremes.
