Ie. Fish from List A should not mix with List B etc ? As well as their profile (needs, diet, size, lifespan, preferences..)

Thanks!

I would call the one from liveaquaria useless it says you can put new world cichlids with lake African cichlids with caution, and the other two are just limited on there selection. Your best bet is to come up with a list of fish that you like or are interested in and people here will help you refine your choices.

I agree with this. There are just to many differences in tanks that play a role in deciding what fish will work together. Some fish will be fine together in larger tanks but at the same time putting the same fish types in a small tank will cause many problems. Give us some ideas on what fish your looking for and what type of tank your planning to use. We can then go from there.

I have a julie and a yellow lab with SA/CA cichlids and dont have any problems. They came with the tank and seem to get along fine. It also included some malawi eye bites but i sold them as i thought they might cause problems

well, the compatibility chart is more for behavior compatibility as I understand it, not water quality.

Here's a site that I've been referring to as I am getting started. Perhaps it will help...

I think that live aquaria chart says that Cory Cats can go together with lake Malawi cichlids. I had some Panda Corys in with a male Electric Yellow and the E. Yellow killed my poor Pandas. Best advice is posting a list.
